The quiet life behind The Whispering Seasons
A lot of people imagine fantasy authors writing in massive libraries, mountain cabins, or bustling cities filled with bookstores and inspiration around every corner.
But honestly?
A large portion of The Whispering Seasons has been written right here in small-town southeast Georgia.
And somehow, that feels fitting.
Because the older I get, the more I realize the stories I write are deeply connected to quiet places, slower rhythms, and the feeling of being close to the natural world.
There’s something grounding about small-town life.
The familiar roads. The old buildings downtown. The train tracks cutting through town. Coffee shops where people recognize each other. Antique stores filled with forgotten things and stories waiting to be imagined again.
Life moves differently here.
Slower. Softer. More intentionally.
And I think that rhythm quietly found its way into my writing long before I consciously realized it.
Some of my favorite moments are incredibly ordinary.

Grabbing coffee and driving through town with the windows down. Walking through downtown Jesup. Watching summer storms roll through southeast Georgia skies. Driving backroads lined with trees. Sitting outside while my dogs stretch out in the grass at sunset. Letting my mind wander while scenes slowly piece themselves together.
That’s usually how stories come to me.
Not in loud moments. Not all at once. But quietly.
Little fragments at a time.
I think that’s part of why The Whispering Seasons feels the way it does.
The series was never meant to feel rushed or overly loud. I wanted the world to breathe the same way nature does: through stillness, through cycles, through quiet transformation.
And honestly, living close to nature makes it difficult not to notice those things.
The changing seasons. The smell of rain before storms. The way evening settles differently in the country. The stillness of tree lines at sunset. The feeling of peace that comes from simply sitting outside and listening to the world slow down.
That emotional atmosphere exists in every part of the Vale.
Even though the series is fantasy, the heart of it is deeply rooted in real experiences: stillness, longing, healing, memory, belonging, and the search for connection in a world that often feels overwhelmingly loud.
I think that’s why both nature and small-town environments continue to inspire me so much.
Neither one demands constant urgency.
Both leave room to breathe.
And maybe that’s part of why I continue returning to these kinds of stories—both as a reader and as a writer.
Because magic has never really felt far away to me.
Not in grand castles or distant kingdoms.

But in ordinary moments: sunlight through pine trees, quiet coffee shops, old train depots, dogs sleeping in the grass, warm evenings, backroads, storm clouds, and the feeling of finally slowing down enough to notice the world around you again.
In many ways, The Whispering Seasons was built from those moments.
And honestly?
I wouldn’t want to write it anywhere else.🌿☕
